Current Troop Members

Trailmen, Parents, Leaders, and Volunteers of Trail Life Troop 412:

Upcoming Meetings:

We will be having regular troop meetings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every other Wednesday at Kentwood Heights Baptist Church. These are the Wednesdays that the church's Awana program is not meeting. If anything changes with that schedule, we will send out an email letting everyone know. For example, this week's schedule is a little different. Even though we met last week, we will be meeting again this Wednesday, May 7th. The next Troop meeting after that will occur on May 21st. The Troop Committee and I will be putting together a calendar of meetings and events to which all of you will have access. That will make communication much easier.

Note: Our first big Troop activity will be a hike on May 31, 2025. We will be giving you more details soon.

Needed Gear:

As you may already know, there are certain items that the Trailmen and uniformed Troop Leaders need as soon as possible to participate in the Trail Life Program. There will be other things needed that we will discuss in the near future, but below are items that we encourage Trailmen and leaders to obtain right away.

As far as uniforms are concerned, we on the Troop Committee believe uniforms are an important building block of a strong, spirit-filled Troop, just like the values of traditional discipline, strong work ethic, and teamwork.

Besides the items listed below for Trailmen and uniformed Troop Leaders, we encourage parents to purchase the Trail Life Parent and Leader Guide. It contains a wealth of helpful information. Everything mentioned can be purchased in the Trail Life Shop at TrailLifeUSA.com.

BASIC ITEMS REQUIRED:

Woodlands Trail

  • Woodlands Trail T-shirt

  • Woodlands Trail Handbook

***Please be advised, the purchase of a Woodlands Trail baseball cap is not required with the t-shirt. Just remember, if the Trailman wants to wear a baseball cap, it must be a Trail Life cap. Each age group has a specific color of Trail Life cap. Other random caps should not be worn.***

Navigators

  • Navigator Polo Shirt

  • Navigators/Adventurers Handbook

***Please be advised, the purchase of a Navigator baseball cap is not required with the Polo shirt. Just remember, if the Trailman wants to wear a baseball cap, it must be a Trail Life cap. Each age group has a specific color of Trail Life cap. Other random caps should not be worn.***

Adventurers

  • Adventurer Dress Uniform

  • Navigators/Adventurers Handbook

***Please be advised, it is not necessary for official Trail Life pants to be purchased with the dress uniform shirt unless the Trailman desires. Any nice pair of dark green, charcoal gray, or black slacks or cargo pants will do. Also, remember, the green, black, and red Trail Life baseball cap that matches the dress uniform shirt is required with the dress uniform. We understand if the purchase of the cap must wait. Please make the uniform shirt your first priority. We also recommend an Adventurers Polo shirt for young men of that age. It is not required, but there are times when Adventurers do not need to wear dress uniforms.***

What To Work On at Home:

Each age group in Trail Life has a certain badge that Trailmen begin working on when first joining. For the Woodlands Trail boys, it is the Woodlands Trail Branch badge. For the Navigators, it is the Recruit badge. For the Adventurers, it is the Journey badge. More information can be found in the Trailman's Handbook and on the Trail Life website. The first requirements that all of our Trailmen should be working on are the basics. These include the Trail Life Oath, Motto, sign, salute, and handshake.

Here is how a troop meeting works! The Trailman memorizes and masters the things listed above. At the Troop meeting, we break up into Patrols. In the Patrol meeting, the Trailman demonstrates his mastery of the requirement(s) to one of his Trail Guides (adult patrol leader). That Trail Guide writes down all of the Trailmen who have completed requirements in the Patrol meeting and which requirements they completed. That information is given to the Troopmaster. The Troopmaster will pass it along to our Advancement Chairperson, who records all fulfilled requirements and advancement in the Trail Life database on the website.

Medical Forms:

Please return the medical forms for your Trailman or Trailmen to one of the committee members (Matt Benson, Nick Gerardi, Joe Horst, Brandon Ward, Sam Kerr) as soon as you can get them completed. We will keep these for reference in a centralized location. Let us know if you have not received a medical form yet.

We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and support as we learn and work through all that is entailed in building a brand-new Trail Life Troop. We are very excited to get everything fully up and running and to see what God will do through the Boys and Men of Troop 412!
